Fic: Waverer (1/?)

Title: Waverer
Pairing: Murphy Pendleton/Alex Shepherd
Rating: PG-13 for now, rating will most likely go up later
Summary: AU, After leaving Shepherd's Glen, Alex runs into Murphy. The men form a tenuous alliance, two is better than one, right?
Notes: No spoilers for Downpour as of yet. Since this is an AU it's going to jackknife off into the realm of "Pepper what were you thinking when you wrote this shit". Romance is happening, I swear. Writing smut is like easing into a tub of scalding water for me, so bear with it ya'll.

His legs were tired from walking, and he was sick to death of the fog. It clung to his clothes and skin as he trudged through it, freezing him to the core. But he was alive, or at least, what passed for alive here. It must have been something like six hours now he'd been walking, without any sign of human life. Alex leaned against a boulder at the road's edge, catching his breath. During his walk, he had time to try to come to terms with everything he'd learned. It was... Easier than he expected. The nightmares would come, he knew that much-- and hell, maybe they would drive him mad. But for now, while he still had the strength, he would keep walking.

Up ahead, shrouded in mist, he could just make out the faint outline of a building. 'The Devil's Pit' was painted in red, flaking letters along the outside. There didn't appear to be anyone around, only loose papers and garbage that was occasionally stirred up by the wind. On the walls, the maps were yellowed and torn, along with advertisements for events long since passed. Alex approached cautiously, running a hand along the paper as he neared the entrance.

"Hello?" His voice cracked, it was rough and scratchy from screaming... He blinked several times, trying to push the memories back.

When no answer came, he pushed the door inwards with a creak. Somewhere below him, a board creaked, and the hair on the back of his neck stood up. Alex's body tensed, ready for a fight. His muscles were tired and sore, but he knew that the fight hadn't yet gone out of him. Quieter now, he inched along the wall, looking through the cracks in the floorboards. Something moved, a blur of colors below him. It didn't appear to be the same jerky, pained movements that the monsters had. Maybe it was a person? Someone that didn't want to kill him, someone that wasn't insane-- maybe...

"Hello?" He called again.

To his surprise, a gruff voice sounded out from below him. "What?!" It yelled.

"I uh..." Alex's hands shook as he moved to the staircase and began his descent, coming face to face with a tall brown haired man. He had a strong jaw, and cold eyes-- the young man recognized them instantly as the eyes of a soldier. He had to step back to avoid running headlong into the man's broad chest, using an arm to steady himself against the wooden railing. "I can't believe there's someone else out here... I mean--" Breath, he reminded himself. "Do you know where we are?"

The man appeared to be unphased by how shaken up Alex was, had he seen the monsters too? "We're just outside of Silent Hill, from what I hear."

"I'm looking to get out of town... Do you know a way?" In his panic to leave Shepherd's Glen, Alex had lost his map. Disoriented in the fog, he'd quickly lost his way. "I... Honestly don't even know how I got here."

When the stranger spoke again, Alex noticed the small hairline scratches across his face, the blood on his clothes. Apparently, he wasn't out of the woods just yet, so to speak. "I know about as much as you do. I'd like to get the hell out of this shithole."

"I'm Alex, by the way." Alex extended his hand, and after a few moments let it fall back to his side. The man's cold gaze told him he wasn't one for silly formalities.

"Murphy." He groused, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Alright, Murphy, we're both looking for the same thing. It might be better if we stuck together... Something isn't right with this place."

Murphy's eyes widened ever so slightly, Alex caught the subtle twitch and wondered what the man had gone through. "You've seen them too, then?"

Alex nodded, relieved in a strange sort of way. "Yeah. Crazy monsters, cultists-- you name it and I've probably gotten into a fight with it."

This coaxed a small smile from Murphy, something Alex was grateful for. An emotion that wasn't hatred or intense sadness was more than welcome. He took a moment to look the man over, he looked... Normal enough. The strong silent type, maybe.

"Right. You can tag along, wouldn't hurt to have another capable human being around here."

"Were you planning on riding that thing?" Alex jerked a thumb at the rail car.

"You got any better ideas? I could pull my magic carpet out of my ass and we could get across that way."

The young man sighed, this was going to be a long trip.

At least he wouldn't be making it alone.

:O Oh dear God, I love you. I SERIOUSLY LOVE YOU. When I saw this pairing, I did a double take, and then it was "HOLY FUDGEMONKEYS IT SAYS WHAT I THOUGHT IT SAID!"

I am SO looking forward to more. :D
I should be writing more soon-ish! Once I set aside some time for myself I'll try to get another chapter done. ;w;
I love you for this!! :D I saw Alex in the pairings and was kinda excited, but then with Murphy?? HUZZAH! It's really great so far to, the way you write Murphy (I think you might be the first person I've seen that HAS actually) and I love how he reacts to Alex. It's just awesome. I can't wait to see what else happens!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad there's still people in this community. I've been around here for as long as I can remember pretty much just lurking. It's nice to finally be able to contribute.
I know, the SH community is kinda sad.... >.> I was hoping with Downpour it'd get it moving along. But at least we got this! :D And no problem, thanks for sharing this~
Well, we all have been around for quite some time. I think a lot of the original members have moved on.
And me too, but I didn't think Downpour really kept true to the feel of the series. :( A lot of fans I know hated it.
But-- I'm sticking around nonetheless!
True....It's really sad though since the first games were so good. And while Downpour was lacking, it was better than some of the newer releases, IMO. :3 But I'm glad you're sticking around, I'd love to see this completed!
I shall be here forever!! :D And I understand your feelings on Downpour, though I think it's a step in the right direction (unlike Resident Evil...)
Same here, lol! And you are right, even though the game had a lot of flaws, it's still not as bad as it probably would have been.
Also I really need to follow up with this. uwu I've been so lazy about writing lately.
XD Yea, many flaws but at least Murphy is a really likable character, IMO. :3 And you dooo~ :D I understand that though, it's been hard for me lately to write as well. @.@
Yes! I really like him. c:
And finally, I added a chapter. It's so out there, though. It sucks picking something back up after a few months (I can't believe it's been that long).
